What to Expect in the Daily Life of Assisted Living

senior living community member talking with a healthcare worker about what to expect in the daily life of assisted living.

Currently, in the U.S., there are over 800,000 senior adults living in an assisted living facility today, and half of them are over 85 years of age1. Many seniors don’t expect to need assisted living, but sometimes life gets in the way, and you end up needing an assisted living program. Daily life in assisted living is not what it used to be. You will find plenty of social activities and daily events to keep them busy and thriving during the day.

At Calder Woods, we welcome Texas seniors who need extra attention to maintain their quality of life. Our assisted living services take into account each resident’s current medical needs to build a comprehensive care program to see to all of their needs. What Are Assisted Living Services?

Assisted living gives Texas seniors a more structured environment than an independent living program. This program is more supportive, with medical staff available to care for them depending on their medical needs. Each program includes a number of services within a secure community to prevent wandering and getting lost.

Some of the assisted living services include:

  • Medication management
  • Assistance with daily living needs
  • Therapeutic services
  • IV monitoring
  • Wound care

Therapeutic services include physical, speech, and occupational therapies to restore lost abilities, build muscle mass, and prevent falling. They also have a full-time staff to assist you with daily living needs, housekeeping, laundry, and an on-site restaurant that serves a variety of healthy and nutritious meals.

Calder Woods is a full-service senior living community that welcomes seniors who need a little extra help enjoying their retirement. We will discuss our programs with you and explain what to expect in assisted living, answering all of your questions so you can make an informed decision about your new home.

Daily Life in Assisted Living

According to some reports, nearly 70% of adults over the age of 65 will need some form of long-term care or assisted living at some point in their lives2. These programs are ideal for anyone who needs medical assistance during the day and evening. If this is your first time touring an assisted living program, here is what daily Life in assisted living is like:

Mornings

Residents are allowed to sleep in and wake up to start the day. Staff is available to aid in bathing, grooming, and dressing so residents can have a hearty breakfast. After that, residents have the opportunity to join an exercise group for a light workout. You can participate in yoga, water aerobics, or strength training. You can also enjoy taking a walk with friends out in nature or sitting and enjoying a good book.

Part of assisted living in daily life includes housekeeping and laundry service. Staff will clean your room and take care of any dirty laundry, so you don’t have to worry about it.

Afternoons

In the afternoons, residents can enjoy a good meal with friends and talk about the day. Medical staff is on-site to assist with anything you need, from taking medication to eating. You can plan your day with plenty of activities to choose from, including:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Educational classes
  • Religious discussions
  • Book clubs
  • Gardening
  • Nature walks

Transportation services are available if you need to attend a doctor’s appointment, run errands, or enjoy group outings.

Evenings

In the evening, residents get ready for dinner and enjoy a meal with friends and peers. They can then enjoy a quiet evening watching TV, playing chess, reading, or discussing their day. Medical staff will give out medications and help with changing and getting ready for bed.
